Play Games – Win Prizes
Feb.10-14: International Games Week is coming soon! Play board games from around the world! Win prizes! Eat snacks! Make and keep your own international pins.
Each day of the week (Feb 10-14) will feature games from five areas: Oceania, Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa/Middle East. For each different game you play, you get a ticket for the daily prize drawing. Our prize sponsors include:
- Doris Duke’s Shangri-la Center for Islamic Arts & Culture
- Honolulu Museum of Art
- `Iolani Palace
- Japanese Cultural Heritage Center
- Kualoa Ranch
- Kumu Kahua Theater
- Manoa Heritage Center
- Polynesian Cultural Center
- Tea at 1024
Other prizes include tickets to international movies, yoga lessons, and many more prizes that reflect the different cultures of the five geographical areas.
The aim of the International Games Week is to encourage students to experience different cultures through games and food samples. Have you ever tried Marmite on toast soldiers, cool cucumber sandwiches from an English High Tea, South African Honeybush tea, or Roasted Plantain Chips? Students will also get to make and keep their own pin using international symbols, cultural icons and phrases in
different languages. Want to learn how to say Hello in Vietnamese, Spanish or Korean? How do cats meow in different languages – chic French cats say “miaou”!
This event is supported by the Honda International Opportunity Grant and co-sponsored by the Diversity and Equity Award from the Student Equity, Excellence, and Diversity Office.
Dates: February 10-14, 2014 (10:00 am to 2:00 pm)
Location: Lama Library Alcove.
