Key Ingredients: America by Food
Kapi`olani Community College will host the Key Ingredients: America By Food Exhibition at the College’s Lama Library on the Diamond Head Campus in Honolulu beginning June 28, 2008, and continuing through August 22, 2008. The exhibition is brought to us through a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution, the Hawaii Council for the Humanities, and the Hawaii United Okinawa Association. Admission is free to the public.
Through a selection of artifacts, photographs, and illustrations, Key Ingredients examines the evolution of the American kitchen and how food industries have responded to the technological innovations that have enabled Americans to choose an ever-wider variety of frozen, prepared, and fresh foods. Key Ingredients also looks beyond the home to restaurants, diners, and celebrations that help build a sense of community through food. The local portion of the exhibit, Hawaii by Food, explores local food traditions in Hawaii.
The Library’s regular summer hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Special viewing hours for the Exhibition are Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday from 12 noon to 4:00 pm, with limited library services available. Closed Holidays.
