Cool Tools: Google Docs

Ever lose hours of work because of a surprise power outage? Ouch! It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it’s usually at the worst possible time (just before your assignment is due…) The library computers reset whenever they are turned off, so unless you have been carefully saving your work to a flash drive or regularly emailing the file to yourself, you probably have to do a lot of work over again.

Here’s something to try instead: Google Documents

Google Docs are simplified versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. The benefits are:

  1. It’s Free!
  2. It has Auto Save!
  3. You can access and edit your Docs from any computer.
  4. You can organize your Docs in folders online.
  5. You can share your Docs with classmates, teachers, and friends.

You won’t find all of the features of Word and Excel, but probably enough for normal papers and projects. Give it a try, and let us know if this was helpful in the comments below. If you have questions, ask us at the Reference Desk. Google Docs
